Andy’s passion to constantly be around water lead him to be a competitor and teach in the modalities of wakeboarding, surfing, kitesurfing, sailing and even paddle boarding in waves. Andy had been involved with kitesurfing since 1998 in Hawaii Maui near the origin of the sport. Shortly after picking up kitesurfing he became sponsored and started traveling and competing around the globe. In 2003 Andy was winning most of his competitions and inventing his own tricks. Andy has been coaching kitesurfing and sharing his love of the sport for 15 years now. Currently residing in Puerto Rico, Andy is the Head instructor and the Kitesurf Program Manager at Goodwinds water sports center.
Among Andy’s accomplishments, he was featured as an athlete in the Discovery Channel’s kiteboarding series Catching Air where he became a video sensation by jumping ice-bergs in Alaska, competed and made the podium in many events including the world class Red Bull Kiteboarding event, and as product of his love for coaching, he has made many instructional videos that have helped kiters to improve for many years.
Andy’s style of kitesurfing is like no other; its diverse, technical and inventive. Non-kiters that see him on the water for the first time, have to stop to watch because his style is whimsical and fun. Experienced kiters sit in awe, because he just makes the difficult seem so easy and flawless. But what makes Andy really special is that no matter how good he is, he is down to earth, extremely approachable and has a true passion to share his knowledge with others.
