Who is it for?
Our Windsurf Camp is designed for kids ages 8-17 years old who would like to learn the sport of windsurfing or continue to expand their skills in the sport.
At Goodwinds we have sails specially designed for kids and youth, and have successfully taught many kids of all ages.
Minimum requirements: 8 years and up, proficient swimmers.
Why windsurfing?
Dorado’s East Beach is blessed with a wide sandy bay, and trade winds that favor us year round. You’ve got two wonderful choices… kitesurfing and windsurfing.
Windsurfing is the perfect choice for kids ages 8-12 years old, since windsurfing can be done close to shore, and has a more manageable equipment configuration. Within a few minutes of water time, your kids will feel like they are already sailing. In any moment of discomfort, all it takes is for the student to put their sail down on the water and sit on their board to wait for assistance.
For teens and adults, that want to practice a water sport that is exciting and exhilarating, that takes advantage of our windy Dorado conditions, but that is a little less intimidating than kitesurfing… windsurfing is the perfect choice. Additionally, it’s an amazing fitness alternative!
Windsurfing also has a lot of variety. Of course we start with the basics, but windsurfers who live in Dorado Beach can eventually become wave sailors, freestylers or Olympic racers!
What is the learning experience like?
Our Windsurf Camp is provided in a group scenario where kids will be exposed to seamanship, ocean safety and specially learn to love everything the ocean has to offer.
We have boards and sails of different sizes, and kids will be divided in groups according to their weight. Our goal is for kids to really learn the sport, thus, we will aim for a 3:1 ratio for instruction.
Upon arrival to camp, kids will learn stretching and warm up techniques and proceed with land and ocean drills.
What does it include:
The camps include 3 hours of daily coaching, for 5 days and use of all equipment.
As part of the camp, students will have access to the following when needed:
What if there is no wind or bad weather?
Windsurfing is a sport that involves many elements, and that in order to become a proficient and safe windsurfer, there is a lot of theory to learn. Thus, in the rare chance of no wind or that conditions are not ideal, we will welcome the opportunity of working on land on theory and many of the skills. We are lucky at Goodwinds that we have one of the most complete water sport centers in the world, and in this scenario, will would be able to offer:
What if I don’t live in Puerto Rico, can we travel as a family?
