What if there is no wind or bad weather?
Kitesurfing and wing foiling are sports that involve many elements, and in order to become proficient and safe, there is a lot of theory to learn. Thus, when there is no wind or conditions are not ideal, we will help build our students’ understanding of the sport that leads to good judgement and safety on the water. We are lucky at Goodwinds that we have one of the most complete water sport centers in the world and are able to offer:
Will my teen/junior be riding in one week?
Week 1 is the perfect opportunity to educate the kids on safety, emergency mechanisms, self rescuing techniques and kite control mastery. Too many schools rush this process and expose their students to board riding without having the ideal kite control to be a safe and independent kite boarder. Even though riding independently is the end goal, students all learn at different paces and we will focus on a building block process where every student will progress to the next level at their own pace. For total beginners we will work on board riding basics.
What happens on Week 2? *We will match the learning pace of every student, but we might work on some of these techniques on week 1 for some. *
Once students start taking their first rides, we work on speed management, kite positioning while riding, controlled and emergency stops, consistently staying upwind, right of way rules, changing course and transitions, board recovery, water relaunching their kites and more! We also revisit and practice self-rescue, walking upwind while flying the kite, more launching and landing, emergency mechanisms, gear selection according to weather, weather reading etc.
What if we can only do one week?
If unable to do two weeks of camp, we recommend for total beginners to do one week of camp followed up with some private lessons.
